How to get to Munich
Munich is the third largest city of Germany, capital of Bavaria and located in the southern part of Germany. It can easily be reached by various means of transport.
By plane: The closest airport is Franz Strauss International Airport (MUC) and is located about 28 km north east of the city center. It is one of the busiest airports in Europe and is connected to 248 destinations worldwide.
For your trip into the city, there are various means of transport available:
- Suburban train (S-Bahn) lines S1 and S8: Both will bring you to the most important stops in the Munich city center and the trains will take you approximately 45-50 minutes.
- The Lufthansa Airport Bus takes you from the airport to the Munich central train station in ca. 45 minutes.
- Rented cars and taxis

By car: Munich has an excellent connection to the rest of the country as it is surrounded by several highways (A8, A9, A92, A94, A95, A96).
By train: Munich is easily reachable by train. The main train station is located close to the city center and offers both national and international connections. The city center is within walking distance (10 to 15 minutes), but you can also use the tram, the metro or the bus. By bus: The Munich central bus station is reachable by several bus lines. To find out the best deal to get to Munich visit for instance:
